Let’s start small. A shared network folder is a folder that anyone on a network can access with the proper credentials or authorization. Access to the folder doesn’t guarantee access to the entire drive, but properly credentialed users on the same network can access the contents of that specific folder.
01How is a network drive useful?

02Why is a network drive better than saving to your desktop?
This part is simple. Your server is backed up multiple times daily, so files saved on the server are backed up too. Individual workstations are not. If someone accidentally deletes a document, or worse, several, they can easily be recovered from backups.
Saving files to your desktop puts them at risk of going missing if something happens to that workstation.
