Seeing a void in the Dental IT field in terms of service, Reuben left his job at a nationwide dental IT company in order to focus on a more intimate business model of his own, striving to create a more personalized one-on-one service model for his clients.
Darkhorse Tech is now nationwide with technicians on the ground throughout the country, as well as a robust remote service team. Our service team is focused on dental-specific IT and are leaders in the industry – you can meet them below!
Shannon grew up in Ithaca, NY and after high school decided to stay in her hometown and attend Cornell University. Majoring in business hospitality, she had a well-rounded business education with an emphasis on marketing and finance. She also developed a passion for culinary. After graduating, Shannon got a marketing job in Chapel Hill, NC, where her boyfriend (at the time), Reuben Kamp was finishing college at UNC. After Reuben graduated they both moved back home to Ithaca. Shannon got a job working at a commercial fitness company doing inside sales. After a few years there, Reuben expressed the need for some help with a business he had started - Darkhorse Tech. Shannon joined the Darkhorse Team doing finance and business development. Her role has now transitioned into that of CFO of Darkhorse Tech. She enjoys working with the Darkhorse Team and clients all over the country. When not at work, Shannon loves spending time outside, working out, and spending time with her dogs and family. She also continues her passion for food and beverage and hopes to continue to further her education in that.
Jackie loves her great state of Texas where she was born and raised. She has worked in the accounting field for over 15 years. She came to Darkhouse from working in chemical plants and working closely with chemical engineers. When she had the opportunity to change her job field in May of 2022, she was a little nervous because she knew nothing about the dentistry field, let alone an IT company. Jackie found dentistry IT very different from what she was used to but very interesting, even though she still had a lot to learn. Her task involves but is not limited to allocating payments, reconciling, aging, billing, and making sure to help and solve any issue that may arise when a client asks. She enjoys learning, taking on new projects, and succeeding in her goals. She loves to work and has a hard time staying still while not working. Jackie also loves to travel with her husband of 20 years and their two grown kids. Jackie can see herself working for Darkhorse for a very long time and is looking forward to learning all that is still to come!
Reuben grew up in Ithaca NY as the son and nephew of dentists. It’s a family business for the Kamp clan. Originally, Reuben attended SUNY Fredonia on a varsity baseball scholarship after being recruited as a pitcher and first baseman at Ithaca High School. After 2 years, Reuben yearned for a larger school experience and transferred to UNC Chapel Hill in 2007, and joined the hockey team as a captain. Reuben graduated in 2009 with a Bachelors in biology, and soon after landed a job with Benco Dental as their lead computer installer in New York. After 3 years, Reuben left Benco to start Darkhorse to provide a better customer experience to his clients. Reuben loves innovation, and this has lead to an explosion in Darkhorse’s cloud department. Open Dental is the leader in PMS software, and he has partnered with them to deliver a seamless cloud experience that clients are raving about. His favorite part about dentistry is meeting like-minded practice owners and talking with them about how to grow and run their businesses. In his free time, Reuben plays basketball and hockey, travels, walks his 4 dogs, and loves to cook great food.
Olivia grew up in Syracuse, NY, and has been part of the Darkhorse team since 2019. Starting out as a Dispatcher, Olivia quickly learned the Darkhorse ropes and grew alongside the company. Now, Olivia is our Operations Manager, ensuring operational excellence across all departments at Darkhorse. Her interest in coordination and planning ensures clients are satisfied with the outcome. She also oversees day-to-day items at our HQ in Syracuse. Olivia is most excited to continue to watch Darkhorse grow in the Dental community. When Olivia is not handling daily tasks at our headquarters, you can find her either spending time with friends and family, enjoying live music, or cozied up on the couch with her Rhodesian Ridgeback, Duke, watching reality TV!
Whitney began her career as a dental hygienist in Oregon, bringing hands-on experience and patient-focused insights into the field. After several years in that role, her family relocated to the Midwest, in Tulsa, OK. Driven by a passion for operational excellence, she transitioned into a Compliance Manager role with a local DSO, where she implemented quality standards and regulatory processes across 70+ sites. With this foundation, she is now venturing into the world of IT, leveraging her diverse expertise to optimize workflows and drive efficiency overseeing both the projects and service departments. In her free time, she can be found listening to Taylor Swift, snuggling her Golden Retriever, Ollie, or attending her husband's stand-up comedy shows.
Jeremy has had a life-long obsession with all things technical. He began his IT career on the software development side of things, before transitioning to an MSP whose primary focus was on security and cloud operations, where he eventually rose to the position of Director of Managed IT. Jeremy was given the opportunity to join the Darkhorse team, and the idea of servicing one primary vertical at this scale, that being Dental IT, was too intriguing to pass up. Managing back-end systems, scripting, training resources, solving problems, and providing great customer experiences are some of the things that drive him every day. When Jeremy isn’t working, you will still find him sitting in the same chair, basking in the glow of his many monitors, but working on technology-related projects as a hobby instead.
A career in sales led Josh to Darkhorse tech from the fitness industry! The constant evolution of technology and integration of technology into everyday life sparked his interest in the field. Since 2010, Josh has held just about every position in the sales industry, from intern to now Vice President. The change of pace during the whirlwind year of 2020 was a great learning environment to get started with our dental start up clients. Working closely with CEO Reuben Kamp to bring practitioner’s visions to life, Josh has been the first line of contact for our existing and prospective clients who are curious to learn about partnership. If you have an interest in learning about monthly support, expanding or updating your office, or planning out your technology needs for a new space, Josh is the person you will likely speak to! When not engaged with his work, Josh spends time and too much energy with his two young boys and Caitlin, his wife.
